The new partnership follows French prosecutors’ saying that they are investigating tech giant Apple’s voice assistant after getting a complaint from a tech researcher accusing the company of illicit data collection. Reports indicate that the probe was entrusted to a police force specialised in cybercrime; the prosecutors’ office in Paris said this without providing further details. Tech researcher Thomas Le Bonniec stated that he was the source of the complaint filed by the French human rights organization Ligue des Droits de l’Homme (LDH). As individuals eagerly await the launch of Siri’s new features, sources indicate that the release is scheduled for next year. The smartphone manufacturer’s decision came after considering using other third-party models for this task earlier. The company tried various models to find the most suitable one, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude. After several considerations, Apple chose Google’s model earlier this year. Following this action, reports indicate that the tech giant’s goal is to employ this technology temporarily until its models become sufficiently robust . Regarding Apple’s commitment to remain competitive in the industry, reliable sources pointed out that the updated version of Siri will be introduced next spring. Currently, the initiative is under the leadership of Mike Rockwell, who developed the vice along with Craig Federighi, a Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple, said sources. The sources also mentioned that the new voice assistant, Linwood, is coming soon with iOS 26.4. Under this partnership, Google’s Gemini model is responsible for Siri’s planner and summarizer functions. Notably, these two are the crucial parts that assist Siri in combining information and determining the best way to complete complicated tasks. Some Siri features will still utilize Apple’s own models. Sources familiar with the situation mentioned that the model will operate on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, safeguarding users’ information and keeping it separate from Google’s systems.
